Deepening Hunger and Famine Emergency in Northern, Eastern and other parts of Ethiopia.

​

Helping Displaced People suffering from one of the most severe Famine and Starvation Crises in the world today is a moral obligation for all.

According to the UNFAO,WFP and UNICEF, over 5 million displaced people could quickly die of starvation due to conflicts in Ethiopia. They are in need of life-saving urgent assistance, such as  food, water, shelter. The number of people affected by famine and hunger is expected to increase unless the international community reaches out with their donations to save lives. Please donate to help respond rapidly to emergency needs.

Your donations will be used to Help people in need of emergency assistance

for the: 1.provision of food, water, shelter, nutrition, therapeutic food for severely malnourished children, water containers, water tanks, cooking oil utencils, washing items like soaps, items for shelters, such as plastic sheets, tents.

2. provision of water well drilling of new boreholes for the provision of sanitation and clean water supply.

3. provision of preventive and treatment health care services including psychological trauma and COVID-19 preventive care to displaced people

Board

The Board of Directors of Enlighten Youth are dedicated professionals in the field of non-profit management, women in development and youth issues, communications/journalism, psychology, health, government, civil society, art, project management, and have long years of experience working as UN Consultants, journalists, communication experts, and managers in government and non-profit organizations, civil society and IT projects. These experienced members of the leadership team along  with donors, government, volunteers and supporters are critical for attaining the strategic goals of our Organization and mission..

The Center works with youth organizations, women organizations, community organizations, donors, volunteer groups, local government representatives, and advocacy groups to achieve the goal of youth empowerment. The Center undertakes  youth empowerment projects through research, training programs, workshops, career exploration, and healthy life styles and leadership initiatives. The major programs of Enlighten lay emphasis on poverty reduction and the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

 Establishing An Integrated Youth Computer Training Center /Civic Culture Education

The Center provides young girls and boys between the ages of 18 to 35 years old opportunities for economic empowerment in the form of vocational skills training and mentorship /Civic Culture program for unemployed youth

The aim of the Computer Training Center is to help arm 300 unemployed youth with the technology and civic skills highly needed by employers at the workplace for a better chance of securing entry-level job or employment that would help them to get out of poverty through hard work.

Programs

I.1 Basics of computer training skills for young girls and boys

Computer skills include knowing how to type, do word processing, understanding social media and having general web skills.

Our Goal is to raise US$450,000 for 2022

Phase I: Basics of computer training skills, and civic education programs

Phase II:Advanced Computer Skills Training/

Civic Education Training Sessions

 Major computer skills employers look for     include:

  • Operating systems (Windows  and MacOS)

 Office suites (Microsoft Office, G Suite, Presentation software (PowerPoint, Keynote), Spreadsheets (Excel, Google   Spreadsheets, etc  social media, HTML),     CompTIA  A+

  • Database management/Administration. Data analysis (resource management, data engineering, database management-AZURE, AWS)

  • Cloud and Network Engineering

  • Cyber Security

  • Computer programming  coding

  • Graphic design

  • Communication and collaboration tools (Slack, Skype, etc.)

  •  Digital marketing.

  • Project management (scrum, Trello, Zoho

  • Marketing hard skills (SEO, SEM, Google Analytics, email marketing, content management systems)

The amount will be used  for Training youth (unemployed young girls and boys) with basic and advanced computer skills including CompTIA A+, the Microsoft Office suite or some equivalent, word processing and spreadsheets and presentation programs, software development, computer programming, data base management/administration, Networking, Cyber security and other skills, and installing our own network i.e data connection to each PC and servers that have processing power and RAM to handle the programs, and for setting up whiteboard /Smart Board/ Ceiling Mounted Projector or Audio Visual equipment

  Our Integrated Youth Empowerment Projects

 

Micro-credit programs/ Trickle Up program/Civic Education Project for Poor Young women.

​

Budget: US$30, 000 dollars assistance from donors to launch this integrated microcredit program in 2022.

Micro-credit programs/ Trickle Up program for poor and disadvantaged youth empowerment. Microfinance is a banking service that is provided to unemployed and low-income individuals who have no other means of gaining financial services.

 Our past programs in which we helped empower 200 poor women have showed us that participation in credit-related activities of youth leads to greater empowerment of credit members. Participants included unemployed young women and men aged 18 to 30

  According to our focus group discussions, beneficiaries of the microcrwdit program reported that the program made them more confident, assertive, self-reliant, and aware of their rights. No doubt, credit programs that target poor young girls, women and boys are likely to produce substantial improvements in their social and economic status.

 According to our 2022 plan, we have identified 300 poor young women in 3 localities.They are organized  into 30 business groups of 10 young women each with each group receiving US$1000 credit to be repaid after their businesses become profitable. The repaid loan will be used for the sustainability of the revolving loan fund or Microcredit program for lending future new members. This program is an important tool for poverty reduction.

We are looking for US$30, 000 dollars assistance from donors to launch this microcredit program in 2022.
